Keith Urban paid tribute to a number of singer who passed away last year during the final moments of 2016. The country artist was performing Saturday night at the free Nashville festival, “Music City Midnight: New Year’s Eve” when he sang a medley of hits from recently deceased musicians including, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Glenn Frey, Merle Haggard, and Prince. He was even joined on the stage by his wife Nicole Kidman. Watch the video below of Urban’s tribute on New Year’s Eve.
With under eight minutes to midnight, Urban began playing Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” From that, he segued into Frey’s “Take It Easy.” After that, Urban began to sing Bowie’s “Heroes.” That’s when the actress came onstage to the delight of the audience. As Kidman danced along, she leaned into the mic at times and sang the song’s refrain, “We can be heroes.”
Kidman continued to move around on the stage as Urban played guitar and sang Haggard’s “Mama Tried” and Prince’s “Purple Rain.” At the end of his performance, the couple shared a kiss, which hopefully will dispel rumors that their marriage is in trouble. In the past, Gossip Cop exclusively corrected inaccurate reports that claimed Kidman and Urban had split.
