Whoopi Goldberg slammed Mariah Carey on “The View” on Tuesday, ripping into the singer for her disastrous New Year’s Eve performance and how she’s handled the aftermath. Watch below.
As Gossip Cop reported, Carey essentially didn’t perform on “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” at all on Saturday, blaming faulty ear monitors. Her camp has since blasted Dick Clark Productions, alleging the company set her up to fail. The producers have in turn called such allegations “defamatory.”
Now on Tuesday, the year’s first new episode of “The View,” Goldberg cracked that Carey “didn’t start 2017 on a high note.” After footage was shown and mean tweets about the fiasco were read aloud, the moderator repeatedly tore in the performer for how she acted on stage and how she’s seemingly acted since. “She’s pointing fingers and stuff. Sometimes you just gotta say, ‘You know what? I didn’t do this one. I blew this one,'” complained Goldberg.
She went on to point out that, although Carey’s in-ears were apparently not working, the music was still “loud enough for the dancers to hear; they didn’t miss a beat.” Joy Behar tried to argue, “Just to take her side for a second, if the girl is having trouble, why not say, ‘We’re having technical difficulties. We’re going to come back.'”
Goldberg shot back, “Because they weren’t… She dumped on them. This is not a fly-by-night organization that came out of nowhere to do this. They do this year after year. And if there’s issues, and there have been issues in the past, they cop to it.”
The EGOT winner acknowledged that a technical issue “does throw you,” but insisted, “what you can’t do is you can’t blame it on the people who are trying to make you look good, because nobody wants you to look bad.” In fact, she questioned why Carey didn’t just encourage the crowd to turn it into a sing-along.
“If she had just stayed with that and not made it about blaming everybody, this discussion would not be happening,” Goldberg declared. At one point, she even suggested “Rockin’ Eve” consider hiring Darlene Love and Patti LaBelle, who gave a flawless and partially impromptu duet on “The View” last month. Check out the video below.
