Shelton and Daly have become close friends through their years working together on “The Voice.” The NBC competition wrapped up its 11th season earlier this month, and both will be back for season 12 in February. They’ve also teamed up for New Year’s Eve in the past, with Shelton also performing for the 2014 special.
In addition to “The Voice,” Shelton’s 2016 included hosting the Kids’ Choice Awards in March and voicing a character in The Angry Birds Movie, which came out in May. That same month, the country superstar dropped If I’m Honest, his 10th studio album. The record peaked at number three on the Billboard 200, but topped the Country Albums chart.
“Came Here To Forget,” the album’s first single, was seemingly inspired by Shelton’s divorce from Miranda Lambert and subsequent relationship with Gwen Stefani. He and Stefani also had a duet on the record called “Go Ahead And Break My Heart.” The couple performed the song together on “The Voice,” as well as at the Billboard Music Awards.
Shelton and Stefani also popped up at each other’s respective concerts, and recently celebrated Christmas together. In 2017, they’ll return to being rival coaches on “The Voice.” Coincidentally, Stefani was one of the performers on Daly’s New Year’s special last year.
